BOOK REVIEW: The Source Field Investigations: The Hidden Science and Lost Civilizations Behind the 2012 Prophecies by David Wilcock (Dutton) 2011

Are you ready to have your mind blown? Are you fascinated with the Mayans, their calendar and their ancient prophecies relating to something scheduled to happen on Dec. 21, 2012?

If you are then The Source Field Investigations: The Hidden Science and Lost Civilizations Behind the 2012 Prophecies is the book for you. In fact, quite coincidentally (if you believe in that sort of thing) a good friend of mine purchased Wilcock’s new book on the very same day I did. He just got his in the mail a day ahead of me. And while we read it, we would share thoughts and notes and just smile, knowing that there was some very special, inside info that the author was revealing.

For instance, in a chapter called “Time Slips, Time Warps and Vortex Phenomena,” Wilcock states: “The Source Field is the master key – a fluidlike energy that ultimately creates space, time, matter, energy, biology and consciousness.”

Wilcock grabs your attention with this bold and striking statement. He follows it in the next sentence, stating: “The ancients appeared to know vastly more about the Source Field than we ever gave them credit for. They built stone structures that may well have created enough coherence to harness ‘natural stargates’ that appear in the earth – when the geometry inside the earth aligns with the geometry in the solar system.”

Wilcock goes on. And that’s just the beginning of chapter 17. There’s so much more going on in The Source Field Investigations that it’s hard to keep up with Wilcock’s train of thought at times. But you sense the excitement of his discoveries and are grateful to be reading the information he has uncovered and is sharing in this easy-to-read book that comes in at 462 pages.

Over the course of this thick tome, full of amazing ideas, philosophical notions and alternative science. Wilcock received a lot of exposure on his multi-part video series called The 2012 Enigma.

Who is this David Wilcock and how did he come up with this information? Well, he’s a 38-year-old lecturer and author from Los Angeles who is a regular of Coast to Coast AM and has been featured as an expert on the popular History Channel series “Ancient Aliens.” He also runs a fascinating blog called Divine Cosmos.

Some would say that for Wilcock to tie in the idea of some “event” taking place in 2012 is just some get-rich-quick scheme by some New Age guru or someone playing on the fears of the same folks who stocked up their basement with jugs of water and Ramen noodles prior to Y2K.

I would like to say that I was a little skeptical with some of the 2012 stuff but something about Wilcock’s book caught my eye. I am starting to think there is something more to all of this the more I read about it and The Source Field certainly opened my eyes.

And with Wilcock, that would include the “third eye” or the pineal gland. Wilcock notes, in an early chapter, how the Roman Catholic Church has embraced all sorts of mysterious symbology, including the pineal-gland-linked “Court of the Pinecone” at the Vatican, which features a large, ancient bronze statue of a pinecone. This was the main item I wanted to see during a recent Vatican visit. And he also notes that the “pinecone” imagery is “an extremely important symbol” for the Roman Catholic Church, particularly when it is placed so prominently at the Vatican. Many, many ancient cultures embraced the pinecone symbology, usually on a staff, as seen on the Pope’s own staff.

Near the giant Vatican “pinecone” is a large “eyeball” a “sphere-within-a-sphere” that seems to be sending a pretty clear message about the importance of the pineal gland in the brain, or the third eye.

So, what of 2012? In a chapter titled “Pyramid Power – Our Key to the Golden Age,” Wilcock said that the Pyramids at Giza, Egypt are great sources of power and that in the Golden Age triggered by the coming events in 2012 are of great importance. Wilcock explains that pyramid power can help Earth and humanity by reducing radiation, closing up ozone holes, reducing the damaging effects of earthquakes and severe weather, purify water, improve crops and help people with diseases. He also said that “this hidden force” that he is discovering is connected to pyramids and that at the DNA level, humanity could improve by tapping into this celestial energy.

Asks Wilcock: “Is it possible that the DNA code is somehow written into the basic energy of the galaxy itself, so that we are actively being transformed into a whole new level of human evolution?”

In another chapter, this on “The Gravity of the Source Field,” Wilcock explains that a Russian scientist, Dr. Nikolai Kozyrev, stumbled upon this energy field – “This was when he first realized that he had not merely discovered the flow of time. It was not just an energy that flowed in and out of physical matter. It was the energy of the Mind as well. The Source Field. With this discovery, Kozyrev could now prove that our thoughts were not locked away privately in our own brains – they created measurable signals that his detectors could pick up.” Again, the power of the Source Field at work, posits Wilcock.

Wilcock also shows, in later chapters, that the United States of America is part of this long-range plan and the shift into the Golden Age, post 2012. He shows that back of the $1 bill and the pyramid and the “eye” acting as the capstone. Apparently on the levels of the pyramid they are divided into 13 levels of 19.7 years each, from 1776 and ending in 2012. This 13th level began in 1993 and ends next year, according to the book and that from 2012 to 2032, “the pineal gland opens.” Will that really happen? Well, there are enough people in positions of knowledge and power who believe it will.

For instance, Graham Hancock, the respected author of Fingerprints of the Gods, among others, gives Wilcock’s book a very complimentary introduction, writing: “(I)f David is right, the hidden Source Field generating the lucid dream we call reality can be expected to make its presence and its influence felt with great power and persistence in the coming years – and to have profound effects on human consciousness.”

Concluding, Wilcock writes that “Clearly there is a wealth of evidence suggesting that the anciencts were absolutely convinced that major events would be heading our way as we go through the shift into the Age of Aquarius. We’ve seen proof that the Maya calendar corresponds to real cycles in the solar system that may well be driven by the galaxy – cycles that are now causing us to experience interplanetary climate change as we head into the Age of Aquarius.”

The Source Field Investigations may not be for everybody. David Wilcock is undeniably a controversial figure. But if this author is on the right track – and I suspect he is – the coming events and change in consciousness will affect all of us in one way or another. This is an important book.

My Big TOE

The trilogy My Big TOE, written by a nuclear physicist Thomas Campbell in the language of contemporary Western culture, unifies science and philosophy, physics and metaphysics, mind and matter, purpose and meaning, the normal and the paranormal. Synopsis of the My Big TOE books

Book 1: Awakening provides in Section 1 a partial biography of the author that is pertinent to the subsequent creation of this trilogy. This brief look at the author’s unique experience and credentials sheds some light upon the origins of this highly unusual work. The unusual associations, circumstances, and training that eventually led to the creation of the My Big TOE trilogy are offered to provide a more accurate perspective of the whole.

Section 2 lays out and defines the basic conceptual building blocks needed to construct My Big TOE’s conceptual foundation. It discusses the cultural beliefs that trap our thinking into a narrow and limited conceptualization of reality, defines the basics of Big Picture epistemology and ontology, as well as examines the nature and practice of meditation. Section 2 logically infers the nature of time, space, and consciousness as well as describes the basic properties, purpose, and mechanics of our reality.

Book 2: Discovery develops in Section 3 the interface and interaction between we the people and our digital consciousness reality. The origins and nature of digital consciousness are described along with how artificial intelligence (AI), as embodied in AI Guy, leads to artificial consciousness, which leads to actual consciousness and to ourselves. Section 4 derives our physical universe, our science, and our perception of a physical reality. The mind-matter dichotomy is solved as physical reality is directly derived from the nature of digital consciousness.

Book 3: Inner Workings presents in Section 5 the formal reality model in detail. In this section the mechanics of reality are explained. You will find out how the past present and future are formed, how they can be altered, and how you interact with the larger reality as an individuated unit of consciousness. Here is explained inter and intra dimensional awareness and is probed the theoretical possibilities of teleportation, time travel and a few of the more fun ramifications of this reality model.

Section 6 is the wrap-up that puts everything discussed into an easily understood perspective. Additionally, Section 6 points out My Big TOE’s relationship with contemporary science and philosophy. By demonstrating a close conceptual relationship between this TOE and some of the establishment’s biggest scientific and philosophic intellectual guns, Section 6 integrates My Big TOE into traditional Western science and philosophy.

Physics and Science

Modern science and technology are only now providing the combined knowledge by which metaphysics can be understood. It should not be too surprising that science, in its relentless explorations of the unknown, would one day arrive at the roots of existence itself. These philosophers did not fully appreciate the subjective component of reality, or that subjective information requires an objective assessment before its value can be determined.

Without these understandings it was difficult for philosophers to differentiate knowledge from pseudo-knowledge. In an age mesmerized by the results of objective science, narrowly focused critics had little trouble discounting the significance of philosophy’s contribution toward understanding a reality defined entirely by physical measurement.

A profound understanding of reality, a coming together of science and philosophy, can occur only within the Big Picture. When our understanding is complete and whole, all the puzzle pieces fit nicely together. As long as our understanding remains fragmented by our limiting beliefs, competing culturally correct cliques within the little picture will define and therefore limit our vision of reality. The breakthrough solutions that the scientists and philosophers have been seeking for many decades lie outside the little picture; one cannot get to them without stepping beyond the limitations of a local objective causality.

Metaphysics – East and West

The My Big TOE trilogy fully integrates a subjective, personal, and holistic worldview with objective science. East and West merge, not simply as a compatible or mutually reinforcing mixture, but as a fully integrated single solution.

The stunning success of science and engineering in the twentieth century would seem to prove the usefulness as well as the correctness of the materially focused Western view. A pragmatic materialism that depends on objective causality is used to generate the appearance of a manipulatable, rational, stability on the outside, while a belief-system of some sort provides the necessary personal security on the inside. To eliminate the discomfort of these conflicting worldviews, the two ends of this bipolar conceptual dichotomy are typically kept separate and do not mix or integrate to any significant depth. Each supports the other superficially as they together produce a materially focused, responsible, upwardly striving worker with a good work ethic, cooperative values, an inclination toward dependency, and a high tolerance of pain.

Theology

A truly Big TOE must explain everything – matter and mind, physics and metaphysics, normal and paranormal – the spiritual as well as the material aspects of existence. An accurate and comprehensive Big TOE cannot help but shed new light upon the theological questions that have gone unanswered for millennia. Though My Big TOE is about science, not theology, it provides a new scientific basis for a grand rethinking and restructuring of fundamental theological concepts. No belief systems of any sort are required to clearly understand what lies beyond physical experience, or why.

Ontology and Epistemology

My Big TOE develops a theory of being that will permanently reorient the ontological and epistemological landscape. With its clear understanding of the origins, nature, and mechanics of consciousness, My Big TOE  answers long standing questions of the point, purpose, meaning, and mechanics of existence as well as the significance of human interaction within that existence. My Big TOE approaches these problems and founds its specific detailed solutions on straightforward scientific analysis. No beliefs of any sort and no unusual assumptions are used to unravel the mysteries of being, consciousness, and the larger reality.

Truth and Big Truth (relative and absolute truth) are formally and logically defined and differentiated. The fundamental difficulty of separating knowledge from belief is thoroughly explored and a methodology to facilitate the separation process is developed.

Can the future be foretold, can it be manipulated? What are the mechanics behind precognitive dreams? Does the past still live? Is time travel possible? If possible, how can it be accomplished? All of these questions are answered clearly, unequivocally and in detail. Free will and Determinism

Physics and parapsychology, hard science and philosophy, mind and matter, normal and paranormal, body, mind and spirit – we have always intuitively known that someday they would come together under one consistent understanding – that they are all coherently, purposefully, and logically (scientifically) interconnected within the Big Picture. My Big TOE delivers us to that day.

Mathematics

The My Big TOE trilogy introduces several new mathematical concepts. It clearly explains why geometric fractals accurately represent natural objects such as clouds, rocks, landscapes, and mountains. It introduces the concepts of a process fractal (as compared to a geometric fractal) and of fractal ecology.

The My Big TOE trilogy delves deeply into the roots of human motivation. Once the larger reality is successfully modeled, a clear understanding of human psychology falls naturally from that model. This Big TOE logically and scientifically derives the nature, origins, and mechanics of human values, emotion, fear, love, ego, needs, wants, desires, humility, and compassion as well as defines an optimal personal mental balance and provides a fundamental non-relative measure of mental health. You will leave this trilogy with a deep understanding of why individuals and societies are as they are.

Systems Theory and Systems Analysis

The My Big TOE trilogy is built upon a theory of complex self-modifying interactive systems. Many of its results are generally applicable to all such systems.

Meditation and Meditation Techniques

In an aside in Book 1, a detailed analysis of the mechanics and function of meditation is offered to help the reader become personally acquainted with his or her consciousness. What meditation accomplishes, how and why it works, and a set of techniques, with instructions applicable to everyone, are described.

Personal Development

Once the larger reality is successfully modeled, a clear understanding of the dynamics of consciousness quality falls naturally from that model. Increasing consciousness quality is equivalent to spiritual growth. Thus spirituality becomes an attribute of individual consciousness – a dimension of being. The connection between consciousness, spirituality, psi, love, fear, and human development is logically developed without employing belief systems of any sort. How and why you are connected to the larger reality, the greater significance of your existence, and the purpose of your life are clearly derived from a scientific analysis of the larger reality. The direction and understanding you need to develop to optimize your personal potential is laid out in specific, easy to understand, detail. You will find out unambiguously how you fit into the Big Picture – how you are personally connected to the whole.

Potential Impact of My Big TOE

Any major new branch of science must begin its unfolding as a top-down big picture analysis of the pertinent data. New scientific paradigms generally begin at a broad conceptual level and then eventually move, over time, toward more specific applications. Such a top-down process often begins with the discovery of a more general relationship between common objects or events. Typically, the old paradigms become special cases of the new – applicable only under certain conditions.

The basic conceptual foundation must be clearly laid-out and thoroughly assimilated before the more traditional bottoms-up scientific approach can be constructed upon it. Only after scientists achieve a certain minimum level of basic understanding can they begin to profitably calculate and experiment their way toward a deeper and more productive knowledge.

The point is: The public message of My Big TOE is focused on developing the conceptual foundation upon which a more traditional future science will one day be based. You see, Campbell has not written My Big TOE to frustrate and torture left brained techies with incalculable theory; the time for massive calculation has simply not yet arrived. At this point in the conceptual revolution presented by My Big TOE, everyone can come along on the journey. Scientists have no particular advantage over nonscientists because Campbell has been careful not to couch his descriptions in techno-jargon or to be too techno-boring. In fact, at the front-end of discovery, right brainers, and better yet, whole brainers, have the decided edge in leaping new paradigms in a single bound.

Some patience is required. My Big TOE provides a rational, logically consistent Theory Of Everything, develops the required new paradigms to support that theory, constructs a solid scientific foundation for future explorations to be built upon, and explains the interfaces and connections between newly derived knowledge and the existing database of scientific and personal experience. This trilogy subsumes physics, redeems philosophy, and explains many public as well as private phenomena. A broad conceptual top-down exposition of the fundamentals of Big Picture Reality is where this train must start.

If and when the Big TOE conceptual brain-train begins to move and pick up speed, it may well initiate the beginning of an independent outpouring of Big TOE science, social science, and philosophy that will begin to take root immediately, and slowly produce fruit over time at ever greater levels of specificity. That is how science moves from concept to application – very slowly, and with casts of thousands. Increment by increment, discovery by discovery – the more people who get involved and apply their brain power, the more quickly the train picks up speed.

Singularity

In almost every area of life, change is occurring faster and faster. Evolution is forever speeding up, and we may be approaching the concept of singularity, when evolution may bring forth a new age – the Wisdom Age. As we emerge from our current Knowledge Age, this new age may bring about a true unity of consciousness.

This is, in short, what Peter Russell discusses in A Singularity in Time, a chapter of book The Mystery of 2012: Predictions, Prophecies and Possibilities.

The quickening is a pattern that stretches back to the dawn of life on Earth. The first simple lifeforms evolved nearly four billion years ago. Multicellular life appeared a billion or so years ago. Vertebrates with central nervous systems, several hundred million years ago. Mammals appeared tens of millions of years ago. The first hominids stood on the planet a couple of million years ago; homo sapiens, a few hundred thousand years ago. Language and tool-use emerged tens of thousands of years ago. Civilization, the movement into towns and cities, started a few thousand years ago. The Industrial Revolution began three centuries ago. Finally, the Information Revolution is but a few decades old.

This pattern is set to continue in the future – each new phase requiring a fraction of the time required in the previous phase. In the future, we might expect the same amount of change we’ve seen in the last twenty years take place in years rather than decades.

So where is all this leading? Some people think we are headed toward what is called a “singularity.” This is the term that mathematicians give to a point when an equations breaks down and ceases to have any useful meaning. The rules change. Something completely different happens.

What happens then is a big question. The only thing we can confidently predict is that this would be a complete break from the patterns of the past. Evolution would have moved into a radically new realm.

But this transition, as major as it would be, would not yet be true singularity in the mathematical sense. Evolution would continue at an ever-increasing pace. Development timescales would continue to shorten, from decades to years, to months, to days. Before long, they would approach zero. The rate of change would then become infinite. We would have reached a true mathematical singularity.

The idea that humanity is heading towards a point of infinitely rapid change was explored by Terence McKenna in his book The Invisible Landscape.  He developed a mathematical fractal function, which he called the “timewave”, that appeared to match the overall rate of ingression of novelty in the world. This timewave is not a smooth curve, but one that has peaks and troughs corresponding to the peaks and troughs of the rate of ingression of novelty across human history.

The most significant characteristic of McKenna’s timewave is that its shape repeats itself, but over shorter and shorter intervals of time. The curve shows a surge in novelty around 500 BC, when Lao Tsu, Plato, Zoroaster, Buddha, and others were exerting a major influence on the millennia to come. The repeating nature of McKenna’s timewave shows the same pattern occurring in the late 1960s, where it happened sixty-four times faster. In 2010, the pattern repeats again, sixty-four times faster still. And then, in 2012, sixty-four times faster still. The timescale is compressed from months to weeks, to days, tending very rapidly toward zero: a point McKenna called “Timewave Zero.”

But when precisely is this date? McKenna experimented with sliding his curve up and down history to look for a best fit. Eventually, he chose December 22, 2012. At the time, he did not know that the Mayan Calendar also ended its 5,124 year cycle one day earlier. McKenna himself was not overly attached to the date; he confided that he would be intrigued, come 2012, to see whether his conjectures about infinite novelty would indeed prove correct. Sadly, he passed away in 2000.

If the ever-accelerating pace of change continues, we are not going to be evolving for eons into the future. We could see the whole of our future evolution – as much development as we can conceive of, and more – compressed into a very short time. Within a few generations, perhaps within our own lifetimes, we could reach the end of our evolutionary journey.

It is often argued that this will never happen because there are limits to the rate of change. Any growth will eventually reach a plateau, resulting not in an ever-steeper curve, but one that bends over into an S-shape.

Population growth is a good example. For thousands of years the human population has been growing, and growing faster and faster. A thousand years ago, the world’s population numbered around 310 million. This number had doubled by 1600. In 1800, it was approaching one billion, and the doubling time was down to 150 years. By 1960, it had reached four billion, with a doubling time of only thirty years. Since then, however, population growth has slowed; the curve has begun to bend over. If current trends continue the human population will probably stabilize between 10 and 12 billion.

However, when we talk about a speeding up of the overall rate of change, we are not talking of any particular S-curve, but the rate at which successive S-curves stack up. It took population growth thousands of years to reach its turning point. The Industrial Revolution took two hundred years. High-speed Internet connections – less than a decade. So the question is not whether any particular growth keeps increasing forever, but whether there is a limit to the rate of ingression of novelty – whatever its medium at any particular time.

One recurring pattern that underlies evolution is an increasing complexity in the processing of information. DNA code is an information database, built up over eons. Sexual reproduction was an evolutionary breakthrough in information processing. So was the development of senses, and later, the central nervous system. The advent of human beings brought another major development in information processing – symbolic language – allowing us to share our thoughts and experiences with one another. Over the years, human breakthroughs in information technology – writing, printing, telephony, radio, television, computing, and the Internet – have consistently increased our ability to gather, process, organize and utilize information.

Organization and utilization of information is the essence of intelligence. We usually think of intelligence primarily in human terms, and occasionally in other animals. But intelligence in its broadest sense has been evolving for billions of years. What is happening today with our own Information Revolution is but the latest phase of a process that has been going on since the birth of the universe.

So the question of whether there is a limit to the speed of evolution does not concern the limits of any particular phase of evolution; it is whether there is a limit to the rate of evolution of intelligence – whatever form it may take. As far as one can see, there is none.

The growth of human information technologies is taking us rapidly toward a time when all human knowledge will be instantly available to anyone on the planet, in any medium. This will be a fully functional global brain in which the information technologies of television, telephone, and World Wide Web will be seamlessly integrated. The world’s audio and video archives will be as easily accessible as text and images are today. Search engines will learn from their interactions with people, becoming increasingly sophisticated in their responses. We will be linked into an emerging global mind.

At this point, the growth rate of human knowledge will be reaching its own maximum. It too will begin to turn into an S-curve. But knowledge is not the end-point of the evolution of intelligence. Many have pointed to a hierarchy of data, information, knowledge, and wisdom. Information can be defined as the patterns extracted from raw data. Knowledge is the generalization of information, applying findings to other situations. Wisdom determines how that knowledge is used. It involves discernment and evaluation: Is this decision for the better or worse? Will it help or hinder our future well-being?

At present, humanity has vast amounts of knowledge, but still very little wisdom. Without developing wisdom, it is most unlikely we will avoid catastrophe. As the inventor-philosopher, Buckminster Fuller repeatedly emphasized, we are facing our final evolutionary exam. Is the human species fit to survive? Can we wake up sufficiently so that we can use our prodigious powers for the good of all, and for that of many generations to come?

Symbolic language led to another significant step in human intelligence. We used language not only to communicate with each other, but also within our own minds, i.e. verbal thinking. With this power we could reflect upon our experiences and plan our future. In addition, we could reflect upon the fact that we were aware. We became conscious of consciousness itself. We began to wake up to our own inner worlds.

At present however, we are only half-awake to who and what we really are. Becoming aware of our own selves brought with it a sense of an individual “I” observing the world and initiating our actions. But just what is this self? It seems so obvious that it is there, but, as many have discovered, it is hard to define it or pin it down.

In addition, we are only half-awake to our deeper needs and how to attain them. Most of us would like to avoid pain and suffering, and find greater peace and happiness, but we believe that how we feel inside depends on external circumstances. We believe that if we could just get enough of the right things or experiences we would finally be happy.

This is the root of human greed, our love of money, our need to control events (and other people); it is the cause of much of our fear and anxiety, we worry whether events are going to be the way we think they should be if we are to be happy. This thinking is also at the heart of the many ways we mistreat, and often abuse, our planetary home.

The global crisis we are now facing is, at its root, a crisis of consciousness – a crisis born of the fact that we have prodigious technological powers, but still remain half-awake. We need to awaken to who we are and what we really want.

Throughout human history there have been individuals who appear to have become fully awake. These are the enlightened ones – the mystics, seers, saints, rishis, roshis, and lamas who in one way or another have discovered for themselves the true nature of consciousness. Although their discoveries have been expressed in different ways, depending on the dominant worldview of their time, the essential message remains remarkably consistent. Aldous Huxley called this the “perennial philosophy,” the timeless wisdom that has been rediscovered again and again through the ages.

The enlightened ones have realized the illusory nature of the concept of a unique individual self. When we examine our experience closely, delving deep into the nature of what we call “I,” we find that there is nothing there – no thing that is. This sense of “I-ness” that we all know so well, and which has been with us all our lives, is just our sense of being. It is awareness itself – so familiar, yet completely intangible. Thus, it cannot be “known” in the ordinary sense. Not realizing this, we seek to give our sense of self some form, some substance. We dress it up in various psychological clothes – all the things we think we are, or would like to think we are. This is the reverse of the emperor having no clothes. With true self-awareness, one discovers there are lots of clothes, but no emperor inside them.

Another consistent realization of the awakened ones is that the essential nature of mind, uncluttered by worry and chatter, is one of deep ease, joy, and love. Not recognizing this, most of us look to the world around us to provide us with peace and happiness. But, despite all the messages from marketing and advertising industries, things or events do not bring happiness. On the contrary, our minds are so full of scheming, planning, and worrying whether or not we will get what we think will make us happy, we seldom experience the peace and ease that lie at our core.

When we awaken to our true nature, we are freed from a dependence on the external world both for our sense of self and our inner well-being. We become free to act with more intelligence and compassion, attending to the needs of the situation at hand rather than the needs of the ego. We can access the wisdom that lies deep within us all. This is the next step in evolution of intelligence: the transition from amassing knowledge to developing wisdom.

Because each new phase of evolving intelligence takes place in a fraction of the time of the previous phase, we can expect the dawning of a Wisdom Age to take place in years rather than decades. It will be standing on the shoulders of the Information Age.

Never before have we been able to access so much spiritual wisdom. Today, we can access teachings from many different traditions and cultures, discover their common underlying truths, and translate that perennial philosophy into the language and terms of our own time. Something completely new is emerging: a single spiritual teaching that is a distillation of the world’s wisdom traditions. This is coalescing and being disseminated globally through a variety of information technologies: books, tapes, Web pages, online forums, and Internet broadcasts.

At the same time, a growing number of people are becoming fully awake, and proving themselves to be excellent teachers. Many are using the Internet to share their wisdom and help awaken others. Instruction in practices that facilitate awakening are appearing online, and could become much more sophisticated. It may even turn out that darshan, the Indian word for a direct transfer of higher consciousness, can be transmitted via the net.

Awakening is often a sudden event. Once a person is ready – the necessary groundwork done, the circumstances propitious – the shift can happen more or less instantaneously. It’s possible that research into the neurological correlates of spiritual awakening will lead us to methods of promoting the process directly. There will likely be other unforeseen discoveries or developments that help us free our minds. Whatever they may be, the more we learn how to facilitate a shift in consciousness, the faster it will happen.

Would this be the endpoint of our evolution? Or would there follow yet another turn of the spiral?

Many of the world’s mystical traditions maintain that the liberation of the mind from its attachments is only the first of step of inner awakening. More universal experiences of mind, and fundamentally different perspectives of reality, lie beyond.

Advanced adepts claim that the world of matter is not real, and that space and time are not the ultimate reality. Interestingly, this view is in accord with modern physics’ explorations into the nature of physical reality. Whenever we try to pin down the essence of matter, it eludes us. It seems nothing is there – that is, nothing of any material substance. Nor are space and time absolutes, as we once thought. They are part of a more fundamental reality, the spacetime continuum.

Perhaps those adepts have already discovered the ultimate nature of reality – not through digging deeper into its external forms, but through a penetrating exploration of inner space. If so, our collective destiny may be precisely this freedom from the illusion of materiality, from the illusion that we exist in space and time.

One person who believed our destiny was indeed a collective spiritual awakening, was the French priest and paleontologist, Pierre Teilhard de Chardin. Exploring the evolutionary trends towards greater complexity, connectivity, and consciousness, he argued that humanity was moving towards an Omega Point – the final end and goal of evolution.

He believed that the universe had been through several major stages of evolution, starting with what he called “cosmogenesis”, the birth of the “cosmosphere”; the Universe. Next was “geogenesis”, the birth of the Earth (the geosphere). Following that, “biogenesis”, the birth of life (the biosphere). With human beings, there came “noogenesis” and the “noosphere”, the sphere of thought. He predicted that the final stage, the one that led to the Omega Point, would be “Christogenesis”. This would be the birth of Christ consciousness, not in an individual, but in the collective – the spiritual birth of humanity as a whole.

Teilhard de Chardin believed this Omega Point would happen thousands of years in the future. Like many others, he did not take into account the implications of ever-accelerating change. In his later years, he commented on the impact of radio and television in bringing humanity together. Technologies like these, he said, were bringing the Omega Point much closer. Just before he died, the first computers were being developed. Perceiving the potential of this new technology, he predicted that they too would bring the Omega Point even closer. If he had lived to see the emergence of the Internet, he would probably have realized that the Omega Point could come very soon indeed.

When we look at what is happening in the world today, it is understandable that we might scoff at the idea of a collective spiritual breakthrough. The daily news is full of evidence that we are heading ever more rapidly towards breakdown rather than breakthrough.

That is indeed one likely possibility. If we don’t make some radical changes, we are surely headed for disaster of one kind or another. But if we can develop the wisdom needed to navigate our way though these turbulent times safely, the potentials are staggering and unimaginable in scope. Let’s put our hearts and minds to proving that we can pass Buckminster Fuller’s final evolutionary exam, and become a truly magnificent species. We are, after all, our only hope.

The End of Time: The Next Revolution in Physics

Does time exist? Is our perception of the world different from its true reality? Is our concept of time fundamentally flawed? These are the central questions raised by Killing Time, a provocative documentary that explores the nature of time.

This Dutch television film, made in 1999, centers on the work of Julian Barbour, a prominent theoretical physicist, who gained notoriety with the publication of his landmark book, The End of Time: The Next Revolution in Physics.

The film (24 minutes, English with Dutch subtitles) does a remarkably good job of explaining the ideas of The End of Time in a non-technical way. In it, Barbour presents the concept of time as a human construct, not as a separately existing dimension.

In a series of interviews, using nothing more than a Polaroid instant camera to snap random pictures, Barbour illustrates the development of his radical theory. He explains that physics has always been grounded in Newton’s conception of time as an invisible river that exists and flows independently of the objects in the world.

However, through his work with collaborator Bruno Bertotti, and his own attempts to reconcile the conflict between quantum mechanics and Einstein’s theory of relativity, Barbour came to the conclusion that Newton was wrong.

Barbour posits that time is, in fact, an illusion – a measure imposed on the world by humanity. He explains this with the concept of a ‘now’, which he describes as a snapshot in time – a completely frozen, self-contained instant (much like a Polaroid photograph). Time is simply the measure of the space between two separate and unrelated ‘nows.’

Barbour concludes by constructing a 3-dimensional model of eternity, using it to show how the past, the future (in the traditional linear sense), and countless other possibilities, are all present and occurring at once.

Fascinating and thought-provoking, Killing Time is an elucidation of Barbour’s controversial theories on time, and a radical rethinking of our accepted notion of the world in which we live.

Fractal Time: The Secret of 2012 and a New World Age

In the introduction to his new book Fractal Time: The Secret of 2012 and a New World Age, author Gregg Braden says that we’re living the end of time. Not the end of the world, but the end of a world age – a 5,125-year cycle of time – and the way we’ve known the world throughout that time. The present world age began in 3114 B.C. and will end in A.D. 2012.

Because the end of anything also marks the beginning of what comes next, we’re also living the start of what follows the end of time: the next world age, which ancient traditions called the great cycle.

From the epic poems of India’s Mahabharata to the oral traditions of indigenous Americans and the biblical story of Revelation, those who have come before us knew that the end of time was coming. They knew, because it always does. Every 5,125 years, the earth and our solar system reach a place in their journey through the heavens that marks the end of precisely such a cycle. With that end, a new world age begins. Apparently it’s always been this way.

For at least four such cycles (or five, according to the Mesoamerican traditions of the Aztec and the Maya peoples), our ancestors endured the changes in global magnetic fields, climate, diminishing resources, and rising sea levels that come with the end of time. They did so without satellites and the Internet or computer models to help them prepare for such a radical shift.

The fact that they lived to tell the story stands as a powerful testament to an undeniable truth: it tells us beyond any reasonable doubt that the inhabitants of our planet have survived the end of world ages in the past. Beyond simply surviving, our ancestors learned from the difficulties that can accompany the change. In the words of their day, they did their best to tell us what it means to live such a rare moment in history. It’s a good thing they did, because such events are few and far between. Only five generations in the last 26,000 years have experienced the shift of world ages. We will be the sixth.

The present world age isn’t something that will simply fade away into the sunset of a time that seems to perpetually linger somewhere “out there” in our future. Just the opposite: our world age has an expiration date. It ends at a specific time, with a specific event, on a day that was marked on a calendar more than 2,000 years ago. There is no secret about that date. The Maya who calculated it also inscribed it as a permanent record for future generations. The date is etched into stone monuments that were built to last until the end of time.

When the date is translated to our familiar system of time, the message becomes clear. It tells us that our present world cycle will conclude with the winter solstice that takes place on December 21 in the year 2012. It’s on this date that the mysterious Maya identified the astonishing astronomical events that will mark the end of our age … and they did so more than two millennia ago.

The reason is that physically, our solar system is moving through shortest part of an orbit that looks like a flattened circle, an ellipsis whose far end carries us to the most distant point from the core of our home galaxy, the Milky Way.

Both ancient traditions and modern science tell us that our location in this cyclic orbit determines how we experience the powerful sources of energy, such as the “massive magnetic fields,” which radiate from our galaxy’s core. Recent studies suggest that it is precisely such cycles that may explain the mysterious patterns of biodiversity – the rise and fall of life on Earth, such as the mass extinctions that happened 250 and 450 million years ago.

Additionally, modern discoveries confirm that Earth’s position throughout the journey (orbit, tilt, and wobble) create the ever-changing cycles that influence everything from temperature and climate to polar ice and the magnetic fields of the earth.

As we travel farther from our galaxy’s core, our distance from the energy located there was described by ancient traditions as the loss of a connection that we sense both spiritually and emotionally. Scientific links between the quality of Earth’s magnetic fields, how they’re affected by cosmic conditions, and our feeling of well-being seem to precisely support such ancient beliefs.

In the same way that Earth’s rotation makes the darkest part of the night appear just before the dawn, our position in the heavens is such that the darkest part of our world age appears right before our heavenly orbit begins the return that brings us closer to our galaxy’s core. With that return, we experience relief from the cataclysmic forces of the cycle’s darkness. And just as the night must pass in order to get to the new day, the only way to arrive at the light of the next cycle is to finish the darkness of this one.

We all know that dark experiences definitely exist in our world, and we don’t need to look far to find them; however, there’s also more to life than the suffering that the ancients foresaw – much more. Even in our time of great darkness, the polarities of peace, healing, love, and compassion are alive, well, and abundant.

Our ancestors had an amazingly deep grasp of just what our experience of cosmic cycles means on multiple levels. Somehow they knew that Earth’s position in the heavens would affect the physical conditions in our world, as well as the emotional and spiritual experiences that we need to embrace them. Through myth, analogy, and metaphor, they reminded us that the farther we travel away from the source of such powerful energy, the deeper we are in darkness and the more out of sync we find ourselves with the fields that influence life here on Earth. From the traditions of the Hopi to the ancient Vedas, it’s this experience of separateness that is credited with our sense of being lost as well.

Our ancestors cautioned that at the most distant point in our cycle, we would forget who we are – our connectedness to one another and the earth. They told us that we would forget our past. It’s precisely this disconnected feeling that seems to be the consequence of the cyclic journey that carries us to the far end of our galactic orbit. It’s also the fear that is spawned by such feelings that has led to the chaos, war, and destruction at the end of cycles past.

The key to 2012 and our time in history is to understand the language of nature’s cycles and to use that language today to prepare for the future. Ultimately we may discover that our ability to understand and apply the “rules” of Fractal Time holds the key to our deepest healing, our greatest joy, and our survival as a species.

Time spiral

Dr. Sergey Smelyakov is a highly respected and brilliant Russian scientist who holds an MA level degree in applied mathematics as well as doctorates in numerical methods and mathematical modelling and cybernetics; his credentials are beyond reproach. Here is how author Adrian Cooper (Our Ultimate Reality, Life, the Universe and the Destiny of Mankind) addressed Dr. Smelyakov’s work The Auric Time Scale:

Auric Time Scale is an extremely complex mathematical derivation, consisting of many pages of computations. In extremely broad terms The Auric Time Scale is a series based upon the Golden Mean and Phi, ultimately describing cosmic and terrestrial events occurring throughout history; events known as “bifurcation points”, which have the potential to influence the course of mankind.

Dr. Smelyakov has formulated his equation in conjunction with the Mayan long-count calendar, and produced a series of correlations between bifurcation points and bifurcation eras, and major events of the past, that had the potential to influence the direction and therefore the evolution of mankind, up to and including the final evolutionary bifurcation point, fixed, in accordance with this model, to 21 December 2012.

If we examine these correlations closely we see that they may well be true, the main caveat being that the timescales involved are so large in the beginning, we cannot precisely correlate dates with events. In the past, bifurcation points have occurred at very large time intervals, but as we approach the final bifurcation point of 21 December 2012, we become more focused on bifurcation points as opposed to eras.

A bifurcation point should, in accordance with the Auric Time Scale, correspond to a major influential event that can be either terrestrial or cosmic in nature. It is these bifurcation points that will be the “sign posts” we follow pointing to the 2012 end-date. There are no single factors involved in the 2012 scenario.

As ever; the “future” will be determined by the collective consciousness of mankind our therefore our influence over reality at a quantum level. I view all of these events therefore as quantum probabilities; any or all of which come into effect based upon the consciousness of mankind, and which could well mean the difference between a catastrophic or eschatological outcome.

So what does this mean to us as we approach the 2012 end-date?

The nature of the Auric Time Scale is such that as we approach the end-date the interval between bifurcation points becomes progressively smaller. This means that these bifurcation events will occur with increasing frequency, and instead of occurring years apart will start to occur months, then weeks, then days apart, until finally, on 21 December 2012, they will start to occur minutes apart, then seconds apart and finally milliseconds apart until the end of the bifurcation cycle is reached, and the mystery of the next phase of mankind and indeed all life would be revealed.

Again though; I really must stress, in no uncertain terms, that this is simply one of a number of mathematical models pointing to 21 December 2012, a model that I personally believe has substance, but which I do not present as fact to the extent this is the way events will definitely unfold.

Again, and this is crucial to understand, the ultimate outcome can and will be decided by the collective consciousness of Mankind.

So what does this mean experientially?

What will we feel? What will we become?

To answer that we need to look at how we would experience these events in the context of time.

What is time?

To many people “time” is measured by the hands or numbers of a clock, or perhaps the position of the Sun in the sky. These however are simply mechanical and convenient methods of measuring this thing called “time”.

In reality time is experiential, not mechanical. We experience time in accordance with our Mind and our relationship with time at any particular moment. We can experience time as something that seems to take forever, or something that passes in an instant.

For example here is an observation regarding time made by Albert Einstein in the context of his special theory of relativity:

“Put your hand on a hot stove for a minute, and it seems like an hour. Sit with a pretty girl for an hour, and it seems like a minute. That is relativity.” – Albert Einstein

According to the Auric Time Scale we are experiencing an implosion of time and therefore of space as the space-time continuum is inter-dependant.

Even now we experience 24 hours as 16 hours although to many it might not yet be apparent. I have heard many people comment however on how “time” seems to be “speeding up”; it really is.

As we approach the final bifurcation marking the transition of mankind, assuming this scenario is the correct one, which is yet to be proven, at the point time implodes we will transition from experiencing “time” to a state of experiencing “non-time”.

This is a very natural state that everyone will experience after a transition to the non-physical worlds at the change known as “death”. The people in the Astral worlds, often known as “the afterlife”, and beyond have no concept of “time” or of “space”.

Let me stress that this final event is nothing to do with “death”, I simply use it as an illustration. At that final bifurcation point everyone would experience the transition to “non-time and space” in a different way. Some would experience their entire life in a moment; some many or even all lives.

Many would know the encumbrance of the physical body, the “clay” that binds us to the physical planet and will wish to be free of it. Many would finally realise the truth of the illusion that they have been living and will wish to leave Earth and travel directly to a “real” existence, beyond the illusion of form, to the 5th density of the Spiritual worlds.

Others, in that moment, will know our Supreme Creator.

The illusion of time and space would be torn away forever along with the facade of egotism, materialism and greed that has dominated, blighted and retarded mankind for so long.

Those choosing to stay would create the “kingdom of Heaven on Earth”, and continue to incarnate on other Earth-like planets in the course of individual evolution.

Above all it would be a great event marking the evolution of mankind to the next level, from Homo Sapiens to Homo Spiritus.

There is nothing to fear but fear itself. Only the collective consciousness of mankind can truly determine the outcome, and fear would bring about a fearful outcome.

And again, this is the scenario according to the Auric Time Scale. We do not know whether this is accurate or true at this stage. We do know however that as we progress inexorably towards the end-date Auric Time Scale will be tested time and again.

These are great events to be embraced and to look forward to.

There has never, ever been a better time to be a human being on Earth.
